The 51st edition of Milan Design week has come and gone in a flash, showcasing thousands of high quality products destined for the global market.

The new trends at the 2012 Milan Design Week are clearly evidence a sophisticated attention to material. Every project evolves in “a” specific material, respecting its intrinsic qualities and peculiarities. Take, for instance, the “Bois de rose” containers by Massimo Morozzi for Edra: simple geometric modules veneered with strips placed “with no regard for the rules of cabinet-making.” Fabric has reached an all-time high in terms of importance, not so much in terms of patterns or graphics, but as a physical presence: take Patricia Urquiola’s M.a.s.s.a.s. sofa for Moroso, covered with fabric and shaped by asymmetrical lines of stitching, independent of the upholstered base below.
