INSPIRATION :: Pantone Colour of the Year 2015

Much like the fortified wine that gives Marsala its name, this tasteful hue embodies the satisfying richness of a fulfilling meal while its grounding red-brown roots emanate a sophisticated, natural earthiness. This hearty, yet stylish tone is universally appealing and translates easily to fashion, beauty, industrial design, home furnishings and interiors.

Marsala is a subtly seductive shade, one that draws us in to its embracing warmth.Leatrice Eiseman

The impactful, full-bodied qualities of Marsala make for an elegant, grounded statement color when used on its own or as a strong accent to many other colors.

INSPIRATION :: Furoshiki

By | Blog, Inspire Me | No Comments

Furoshiki (風呂敷) a type of traditional Japanese wrapping cloth traditionally used to transport clothes, gifts, or other goods.

Originating from Japanese culture where it promotes caring for the environment and reducing waste; Furoshiki is the eco-friendly wrapping cloth.

Using techniques similar to origami, it can be used for gift wrapping, grocery shopping or simply as decor.

Why furoshiki? It is reusable and multipurpose. Each year billions of plastic bags end up as litter; reusable bags, such as, furoshiki can help reduce the impact to our environment. Its versatility allows you to wrap almost anything regardless of its shape or size.

Celebrating 60 years of the Fritz Hansen Series 7 Chair

By | Blog, Inside Industry | No Comments

Originally designed by legendary Arne Jacobsen in 1955, the Series 7 chair has been the single most poplar design piece in the history of Republic of Fritz Hansen. Through decades the strong, minimalist shape has stood the test of time. In fact, Republic of Fritz Hansen feels so strongly about the translatable nature of the original model, they have changed nothing about the design.

Contrasts are the keyword in the 60th Anniversary Edition – it is all about contrast, both in materials, surfaces and colours. The two chairs has been created with a masculine or feminine perspective – as a deep dark blue shell with powder coated legs in a burnished look and a pale pink shell with gold-plated legs (24 kt). While the deep dark blue and the pale pink may contrast each other, they are also two colours that when combined, both display a calming and elegant look.

Miriam’s Story so far…

By | Blog | No Comments

When you meet Miriam, you experience an abundance of life, laughter and a passion for colour and design.

Here’s Miriam’s story so far….

Working as a visual merchandiser for 10 years and having a passion for interior styling, I started my own business ‘MimConcepts’ combining my two loves.

1653569_766600080061258_7777264298477760177_n 10361066_10152394569341740_7257887151809443340_n 10978650_814836621904270_336567946178882300_n

I wanted to develop my skills further and gain more knowledge around design and colour, so I became apart of the HDS community and completed my Certificate IV in Design. Throughout the course, I learnt alot about why my designs were working (or why there weren’t not as successful as they could be) and the process for design. This made me to slow down and consider every creative choice I made, resulting in successful designs. This was made evident when I won the 2014 Achievement Award for Certificate IV in Design plus the Industry Design Award from local homewares store Me Me.

When designing for myself I’m drawn to Scandinavian and Vintage styles, thus designing and producing a Scandinavian inspired tapestry weave for my major project. Weaving gave me the space to create something that was therapeutic and the opportunity to work with natural fibers.

With a fresh understanding of the design process, I will now be producing and selling a range of my tapestry weaving’s on etsy. My first range is inspired by modern Scandinavian interiors with tones of pink, peach, grey and mint alongside contrasts of black and white.
